Bruce is getting stronger!<br />
He stands up at home with the brace and the help of two ladies for 7 - 12 min in the morning.<br />

As you can see, he has been spending time in the garden, that man is still tracking dirt in the house!<br />
<br />
I have joined the Diet Doc here in town and am learning how to eat healthy. Bruce loves the new recipes we are trying. I was eating too many carbs and wanting to sleep all the time.<br />
I eat protein with every meal, some carbs and healthy fats. I've lost 17 lbs since Dec.<br />

I'm not giving away any Diet Doc secrets, I do not share their menus or pep talks.<br />
I've also started doing sprouts, who knew they were so totally easy to do! The alfalfa sprouts are the sweetest.<br />
Duncan has decided to go to school in the fall in drafting at Klakamus and his brother and family said he could live with him. He is looking for a summer job, he has had several interviews.<br />
Andrew works at Skip Line in the old Bronson Lumber building, they employ 25 people. He solders computer chips for the machines that make the paint lines. Apparently there are only two of these companies in the US.<br />
I'm feeling more relaxed since I only care for Bruce every other week end, who knew this is so difficult?<br />
Please don't tell me to call you if I need help. Ask yourself, "What kind of help would you want if you were in this situation? " and then do that, cookies are good, pulling weeds is better, the best, take Bruce to lunch. I take someone to lunch every week so I am good.<br />
We pray daily to find others that need help and bless their lives with our junk, I mean things we no longer need, no wait, how about our presence?<br />
My skill is sewing, I help others by making quilts. I want all the quilts I've given away displayed at my funeral. That will be my legacy and KFC, I love KFC and they have grilled meat, so it is healthy.<br />
<br />Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-59223401903986039532018-04-22T22:46:00.002-07:002018-04-22T22:46:25.401-07:00I Love the Sunshine! What a difference the sunshine makes! I feel alive again.<br />
<br />
We began the week with accidents that include washing the sheets daily and one mid day change.<br />
I am grateful the ladies come M- F and every other weekend.<br />
Tuesday was Lunch Bunch with four friends at Jax Dog. I had the black bean soup and homemade bread. I don't see how they make it with their limited selection, beet salad or baked yam does not appeal to me.<br />
Wednesday was Quilt Questors meeting and I showed off the three quilt tops I worked on on my retreat stay cation.<br />
Duncan traveled to visit 3 community colleges and stayed with his older bro Ben. Ben and Lindsey offered him their "spare om" for 2 years so it looks like he will be headed that way. He will look for a temp job here and if that doesn't pan out he will head to Corvallis for a job and drafting school in the fall.<br />
We went to the Central fundraiser for dinner Thursday evening and I had loaded baked potato soup and Bruce had the chili. Andrew went to Wendy's for a burger and fries. ahh youth<br />
I signed up for a Dresden plate quilting class on Wednesday. I've always wanted to do that quilt so this will encourage me.<br />
<br />
My friend Rosala and I went to Cove to the Shabby Shic shed. (say that fast 7X) We took the long way around, ahem we missed a turn, twice... I did purchase a couple of salt shakers on bamboo for planter stakes, a wooden box for the front door and this most wonderful, marvelous, can you guess? YES! an old window frame with diamond panes. I will create a matching quilt for our spare om! I love it! Or I might just get lazy and display old fam photos...<br />
Saturday I took Bruce to Grandescapes for 5 blueberry plants. I copied the planter there and purchase 3 items for a planter in the back yard. On to D&B for fertilizer and a grape vine trellis. No luck, so I hauled Bruce to Bi Mart and we decided their trellis is too flimsy. I did purchase a scales to weigh my food. I am exhausted and worn out. Clamping and unclamping Bruce leaves me tired, mean and grumpy, well worse than usual...<br />
I will go grocery shopping, get gas in the van and get a second wind to purchase fabric for the class on Wednesday.<br />
Sunday was church for 3 hours, you would think we would be perfect with all the church going we do... alas i need to stay here and keep Bruce in line.<br />
He came home from all day meetings and wanted me to smell him. I politely declined. He next asked Andrew and the child, I mean young adult, laughed at him. No thank you dear, just stay home. There was no time to change him, so we waited for our ever faithful home care providers. Did i tell you how happy I am they come?<br />
I hear Darth Vader in my bedroom, that means the sleep mask has once again become dislodged from his handsome face.<br />
That's all from Lake Kevan begone, have a pleasant week.<br />
<br />Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-49771372086672221362018-04-15T11:30:00.001-07:002018-04-15T11:30:09.995-07:00Sunday Morning I am back to writing. I am exhausted from caring for Bruce. I have anxiety, sleep deprivation and other things I don't want to talk about here. I do take time for myself, I give service, I went to a therapist, I just need uninterrupted sleep for a month...<br />
<br />
We had the renovators in to put cabinets in the pantry and a desk/work area for Bruce.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrDxpKm3ESp_-A2r6SMFR28W4OgtE5lu7R6W4VjZ29gzrN1gzdBz1j3BTFLSvuDL6CaJZtRtmNbIT_qlcpm5mK3dMu1N-w0RDEF6znaEvcItA3zj4c7v_KJsn-cKbIyaS9QxYMNC5miPum/s1600/pantry+cabinets.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrDxpKm3ESp_-A2r6SMFR28W4OgtE5lu7R6W4VjZ29gzrN1gzdBz1j3BTFLSvuDL6CaJZtRtmNbIT_qlcpm5mK3dMu1N-w0RDEF6znaEvcItA3zj4c7v_KJsn-cKbIyaS9QxYMNC5miPum/s320/pantry+cabinets.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It is really nice. I want to caress the wood just like I do my fabric.<br />
I went on a three day staycation quilt retreat at a local hotel with a hot tub with a friend. I sewed three tops, ate out, slept in, exercised and talked with friends. Does that rhyme?<br />

My friend, Rosala says I need to add 3 more blocks to make it bigger. </div>
Go away, Rosala.<br />
<br />
Bruce is improving daily. His spirits are up. He used arm braces in the pool to stand and sit, no walking yet. He is talking about going to Colorado to get some robot legs. We are not sure he will need them, he will confer with the Dr in Tri Cites at the end of next month.<br />
<br />
We have hired through private pay another gal, so I only work every other week end. This is helping. It is the 2 am turnings and anxiety that gets to me.<br />
<br />
I entered 3 fabric art items for the Arts East exhibit this month.<br />

No, this wasn't healing for me, cathartic, the shirt had been in the basement for 3 1/2 years, I will do something with the blue jeans next year. I'm thinking I need one of those bizillion $$ embroidery machines to create the next work of art... </div>
<br />
I have signed up for two quilt retreats at Wallowa Lake in June and Sept. I doubt I will get much sleep there...<br />
My sistahs are both losing weight, I do not want to be the fattest of them all so I am going to the Diet Doc tomorrow for a consultation.<br />
<br />
We are improving, we are grateful for family, friends, neighbors, and community.<br />

There was a corduroy quilt, an embroidered quilt, a monster patch quilt no several large quilts. She said her mom had made them and never got around to donating them to any one. I took them over to the school and they were delighted to have them. I suggested they do a raffle for the larger quilts. <div> I picked up two friends to go to our churches women's social group called Night Relief Society. We had an ornament exchange, a cocoa bar and some yummy treats I hope to get the recipe for. Mr Durfee and his wife and oldest daughter were there and we sang and listened to carols. It was a fun evening. </div><div> Bruce didn't have therapy yesterday and so he used his manual wheelchair around the house. He can get around pretty good on his own. Duncan took him to Big 5 to get a leg brace. He gets scratched up in pool time so that will help protect his leg. </div><div> He was able to take three steps standing upright on his own in three and half feet of water! He is really improving. </div><div> </div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-72539291772911274152017-10-30T13:12:00.001-07:002017-10-30T13:12:49.250-07:00Lift Assist<div>I suppose it is time I update on Bruce's shenanigans.</div><div> As you are probably aware Bruce is doing most of his driving by himself now. He usually goes to therapy and returns promptly home. Alas, he made a side trip to the dry cleaners and while transferring he fell forward out of his wheelchair. The nice lady in the shop saw him and came out. She said she knew what to do to help him as her mom falls all the time. She called 911 and requested "lift assist". Two very nice young men arrived and lifted Bruce while crouched in the van to his chair. Bruce then drove home and did not tell us what happened until that evening while we dressed him for bed and saw a bruise and scratches on his white backside. He then said, 'I wasn't going to tell you because I didn't want you to worry." </div><div> Knot head, the OT said he was lucky it wasn't worse. The PTs said now you know and can be prepared for it. So when he is exhausted after therapy he waits 10 min for recovery before driving straight home.</div><div> New tile - no more diapers! Huzzah! That really delights me, only have had one wet incident since then. Who knew how wonderful this day would be!</div><div> I am working on costumes for YCC, Youth Cultural Celebration for the Meridian Temple dedication. I only have three more dresses to sew. Friends are sewing bow ties and I only need one more tux, size 36 which we hope to find in Boise this week. The wards have come up with sewers and some of the 103 dresses are amazing! </div><div>Such team work!</div><div> Now it is my turn to fall. After returning from a morning practice in Baker I had to race to get Bruce to a 2:30pm afternoon meeting. I had left my purse in the van and wanted to retrieve it before Bruce backed in. I banged my pumpkin head on the side of the van so hard I fell backwards onto the ramp damaging my pride and landing on my well padded derrière. (That's French for behind) it knocked the breathe out of me and immediately the tears came. I got Bruce in the van and headed to the church wondering if I had a concussion. Upon returning home, I self medicated with a bowl of ice cream, maybe two bowls and some pecans. My friends said my eyes weren't dilated. No nausea, just wounded pride. Sheila says slow down. </div><div> We did get the fence replaced. Who needs bamboo screens now? And the ramp painted. </div><div>Some YMare coming on Saturday to hack off the blackberries, take the netting off the blueberry cover, rack leaves and lop off a branch or two of an intruding maple tree. </div><div> Bruce will be very pleased his back yard is shaping up.</div><div> We want to plant a peach tree in the spring and the grape arbor will be built too.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2kH-ByBG5UG9Exm-oyStBHH2pukJMHt7_7uLZeGjUwfsC26S_Hj_zDOWN9OcmR0wgVo7RELn0aXr-F2UEMpLGTRMoRxOhgljzs0XPanOgFCYJbenw2fa_F-nfxhiNdJNY02dH9icOjNyh/s640/blogger-image-1651010970.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2kH-ByBG5UG9Exm-oyStBHH2pukJMHt7_7uLZeGjUwfsC26S_Hj_zDOWN9OcmR0wgVo7RELn0aXr-F2UEMpLGTRMoRxOhgljzs0XPanOgFCYJbenw2fa_F-nfxhiNdJNY02dH9icOjNyh/s640/blogger-image-1651010970.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div><div> </div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-50961428224697250202017-09-27T08:41:00.001-07:002017-09-27T08:41:54.454-07:00Bruce is Driving!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9bpzh3BLKoM-aE6ppYdMjEe7O0ciwA0vzlg44qDHAWtMqK3w3rN3Z4NEW5nIO9NHsolpTeUiDAMAvec-p5DGPw1SsTL7xHaaiUKis5VRA8SaojzuTff_NO7Im7H5lFhf_a7NU-X0Rx3bb/s640/blogger-image-567285810.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9bpzh3BLKoM-aE6ppYdMjEe7O0ciwA0vzlg44qDHAWtMqK3w3rN3Z4NEW5nIO9NHsolpTeUiDAMAvec-p5DGPw1SsTL7xHaaiUKis5VRA8SaojzuTff_NO7Im7H5lFhf_a7NU-X0Rx3bb/s640/blogger-image-567285810.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">There is a doorknob on the steering wheel Bruce uses. Alas the owners got the message mixed up and a chair is going to have to be ordered. They didn't realize Bruce has recovered as much as he has. They will also find our shotgun chair and put that in. We will return Sept 8 when Bruce gets his leg braces.</div><div> We were able to get Bruce's wheelchair arm repaired, it was broken off and we found a Nu Motion store in Meridian that replaced it for FREE. Yeah</div><div>Duncan got a new pair of shoes and socks.</div><div> We ate at a marvelous restaurant called Panera, a bread restaurant. It was a healthy, fast, friendly place to sup. We will go there again. I had a grilled chicken salad with greens on the bottom and fruit (sliced pineapples, blueberries and strawberries) on top with a poppyseed dressing. A side of baked chips in a bag or a delicious baguette was impressive.</div><div> This week Bruce has developed a dizziness. His marbles in his ear are off balance. I did not know we had marbles in our ears... They treated him in therapy. (Canalith Repositioning) He has to sleep in the bed raised to a 45 degree angle for two nights. I slept on the couch. I have to be within hearing distance. My friend suggested I purchase a moniter so I can sleep in the spare bed in my sewing room. </div><div> They have almost finished putting the bark mulch on our landscaping. It is therapy for me to see such beauty in plants. The names of the hostas on the shade garden are fun, I kept the tags of the names so I can impress you with my botany knowledge, Big Daddy, Dragon Tail and Blue Mouse Ears. There are two Chocoholic plants, a Red Lightening and a Sea Heart. Do a drive by to admire it. They even put flowers in the back yard. Pink enchiladas, did I get that name wrong? And some black eyed Susan's.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkYa-Fy1g6PxJNCA1S0oq53-aZuId1Ddl4GQdl3lgcTFvjclilPtVtoMQgfBmghv5wy_5l4cjANUPCt1vtPbu0RAqhRkhJtYyC51YaukXmSSZDmPvn4oeXivVu6XfAlOOI_-br5sGGr9b_/s640/blogger-image-1000298839.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkYa-Fy1g6PxJNCA1S0oq53-aZuId1Ddl4GQdl3lgcTFvjclilPtVtoMQgfBmghv5wy_5l4cjANUPCt1vtPbu0RAqhRkhJtYyC51YaukXmSSZDmPvn4oeXivVu6XfAlOOI_-br5sGGr9b_/s640/blogger-image-1000298839.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeOvzQivCfKsze71xTfM5SLDuKEz7T7iudSphvY2veqFMkLPZJSdYHL75BGdEkkdHIatL3le5I_hmQcSVkNXB_qx6VtQGi3Mo4jKeHZmS7FMQL9thvnekyldJhocliEc2esM4gL3zIJ60i/s640/blogger-image--1915329498.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeOvzQivCfKsze71xTfM5SLDuKEz7T7iudSphvY2veqFMkLPZJSdYHL75BGdEkkdHIatL3le5I_hmQcSVkNXB_qx6VtQGi3Mo4jKeHZmS7FMQL9thvnekyldJhocliEc2esM4gL3zIJ60i/s640/blogger-image--1915329498.jpg"></a></div><br></div>This is the Red Lightening Heuchera, (yeah I have a problem pronouncing it too)</div><div> FREE Market is today. I am taking some junk, I mean treasures to regift to others. I look forward to cleaning out stuff every year. Our church fills the building with items and we return at 6 in the evening to get what we need. I usually don't return as my home is full of things I am trying to declutter.</div><div> Bruce's hands are turning off and on. He can feel them when he sleeps at night, during the day when he moves them around he feelings lapse.</div><div> He stood 27 times in therapy last week. </div><div> We got a jungle gym added to the bedroom. Bruce uses it to pull himself over at night. No more 2am turnings for Duncan. I still get up to hand him his pill and fill the sleep machine. And speaking of the sleep machine, we had to get a chin strap for Bruce. No more Darth Vader a night, yeah.</div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div> </div><div><br></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-55326064983022028682017-08-07T11:20:00.001-07:002017-08-07T11:20:26.278-07:00Hands on Fire!<div> <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">Bruce said he woke up this morning and both hands were really warm. It stopped and he could move both Hands and had touch sensation in his fingertips. The numbness was gone. What a miracle! He is still healing. Thank you for your prayers.</span></div><div> Bruce won a blue ribbon in the fair this year. I, alas, got two reds. I'm blaming it on the long arm quilter. bah humbug. Next year</div><div> We leave Friday for Meridan. We will get the van changed over to hand controls and Bruce will be doing in town driving to and from therapy and to his Stake meetings.</div><div>A big step to independence. </div><div> They put a handicapped entry way in the stake center, allowing him to park at the FHC entrance and use the automatic door so he can enter and leave the building without any assistance. Now we need to find an accessible bathroom for him. </div><div> The valley is socked in with smoke from fires. It burns my eyes when I go out in it. Rain on Friday so hopefully that will clear it up.</div><div> The sleep machine isn't working so well. Bruce's jaw drops down and breaks the seal. We are looking into getting a chin strap. </div><div> Bruce has had another bladder infection. He had to do double duty doing temple recommend interviews this month as other leaders were on trek. Once he is on antibiotics he recovers. He keeps going. He was really tired on Sunday evening, it catches up to him. </div><div> My friends took me to the new Jaxdog cafe above the former Looking Glass bookstore. We had the most delicious chicken curry salad. The home made bread was fresh and warm. I brought some for Bruce. I want to go back and taste some quiche. They have a very small kitchen and limited menu. It is on Facebook so you know what they will have that day. They have tables downstairs so Bruce will be able to go with me. The owners are very friendly even when I asked the cook to marry me and he politely declined. Two thumbs up! No, no kickbacks for me, just fine food.</div><div> Andrew went to test drive a small car and ended up driving a red BMW. He was set to purchase it and a friend talked him out of it as there is no place in town if it needs repairs. If you hear of a small car or pickup, let us know. I do not like not having a car around for me to drive as Andrew takes mine to work. And no he refuses to ride a bike to work. </div><div> We plucked several tomatoes off the garden vine this morning. They have black spots on the bottom. We will have to change the way we water. I love homegrown maters. </div><div> Some wonderful friends gave use some huckleberries! I made a cheese cake pie that didn't set up, however the freezer works wonders.</div><div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjemOJh7rfabt2u4Nwp9rPfP1eUXcYwW7FVb7TbkdL8QfT52_sv4BMkHfsULJD_2kgwBB67LVWqOuMLOPiaNvQRHTwriVtyo8bC_FBet_G_LcXV0qWP_87X0EeBf_ZQXvwL9lbot742-XBG/s640/blogger-image--1705794225.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjemOJh7rfabt2u4Nwp9rPfP1eUXcYwW7FVb7TbkdL8QfT52_sv4BMkHfsULJD_2kgwBB67LVWqOuMLOPiaNvQRHTwriVtyo8bC_FBet_G_LcXV0qWP_87X0EeBf_ZQXvwL9lbot742-XBG/s640/blogger-image--1705794225.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR4Ofg9jd1b4j0iDWeNkvp9VNX1A4M12T8VTy_FRhbgL166dL-sOsTCOiNd4PS-80ThOQQXwnl4RLiRya3bZNtcdVjKMxfIwiaGGjwoGCWO3Hl0K8-lJiFR8Rqllc6pqn8xct0nrD8Pm8i/s640/blogger-image--754777222.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR4Ofg9jd1b4j0iDWeNkvp9VNX1A4M12T8VTy_FRhbgL166dL-sOsTCOiNd4PS-80ThOQQXwnl4RLiRya3bZNtcdVjKMxfIwiaGGjwoGCWO3Hl0K8-lJiFR8Rqllc6pqn8xct0nrD8Pm8i/s640/blogger-image--754777222.jpg"></a></div></div><div> </div><div> </div><div><br></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-5006419295835972652017-07-22T22:09:00.001-07:002017-07-22T22:09:29.322-07:00Stuck in the Mud<div><br></div><div><br></div><div> Last Saturday I did some compassionate service with a friend, we went to an estate sale in Union to purchase fabric for $2.00 a pound. I came home with a few bags of good quality fabric for baby blankets, and lap quilts for dialysis and maybe something for me.</div><div> Meanwhile Bruce was in the garden picking the raspberries. One of his wheels went off the bricks and he was stuck, apparently he was there for 2 hours. Andrew was still in bed, remember he doesn't get up until the crack of noon and I left before I could ask Duncan to keep an eye on Bruce.</div><div> Bruce had his hat on so he wasn't sunburned. He said he practiced whistling for a while. He tried yelling for the neighbors and they couldn't hear him, not enough lung power. He tired rocking back and forth to get out like you downed you are stuck in the snow, that didn't work. He finally sees a neighbor across the alley yells, "howdy neighbor". He tells him he is stuck and he meets Peter. Peter tries to get him out and ends up knocking on the door for Duncan, they can't get him out and they wake Andrew. The three can't get him out. (should we write a song about a little old man that was swallowed by the mud?) peter shad he can winch him out. Duncan suggests they move some of the bricks and .bruce is able to get out.</div><div> So next Bruce decides to work in the shop. He goes to open the back door and his feet plates ram the door and breaks off the lock. (he has the chair on rabbit not turtle.)</div><div> Next he is backing up in the garage and his back wheels snag the underside of the front bumper of the Hyundai which is plastic and he removes that from the car. He and Andrew fix it before I return. </div><div> See, I can't leave him, he gets into trouble.</div><div> Just one of those days. </div><div>He said he learned his lesson and will take his cell phone with him. I will have to carry mine with me. It is not a habit I am used to doing. </div><div> </div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-86378850244436997982017-06-19T07:30:00.001-07:002017-06-19T07:30:59.306-07:00Leg Braces Bruce was measured for leg braces on Friday! They will be here in 4 - 6 weeks. We will go to Boise to have them fitted. Bruce said I need to go to learn how to put them on him. <div> We will go to Boise for the weekend soon for the van to be changed over to hand controls and Bruce will be driving himself. Duncan is making preparations to leave. He is working on a plan.</div><div> The hinges are happening here, slow but steady.</div><div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEsomJO7YVcOSDZDKxEqUDX-q1rMQ5LTmORFTccSVGKMcMdt6-tAPfN5XAikKr4cc4JTd5crSJMKisGntd1erZ_nhqJ0Up5sFBfyITIKt6SrcexjSvskRfGx-NaaO9aScIpCqga9D5loIM/s640/blogger-image--2083533668.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEsomJO7YVcOSDZDKxEqUDX-q1rMQ5LTmORFTccSVGKMcMdt6-tAPfN5XAikKr4cc4JTd5crSJMKisGntd1erZ_nhqJ0Up5sFBfyITIKt6SrcexjSvskRfGx-NaaO9aScIpCqga9D5loIM/s640/blogger-image--2083533668.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> This might be what the leg braces look like. He will use them in therapy. I don't want him using them at home if I am here by myself, the idea of him falling scares me. They want him to use them for 15 min a day at home, they assure us he will not use them at home until he is strong enough.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> We went to La Fiesta for Fathers Day on Saturday night. Our daughter sent Bruce an R2 D2 charger, thank you for teaching me the love of Star Wars! We were able to hear from all the children. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> Life is mostly good. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> </div></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-2184443118311467092017-05-07T21:25:00.001-07:002017-05-07T21:25:50.390-07:00Respite in Rural Virginia<div>I got to go to Virginia last week!</div><div>My dad turned 90!</div><div> My two sisters, Elaine and Bonita joined me along with my 88 year old mother flying to Atlanta and then on to Charlottesville. My brother, Kevin drove his semi and was able to be there for three days. My sister Robin and DIL Angie drove two cars to pick us up. </div><div> We arrived late Tuesday evening. My sister and her daughter, Patty joined me and we stayed in a local hotel. Sharing two bathrooms with six females and four males might have caused some tension. I know they do it in the third world. We are spoiled. </div><div> Wednesday we were recovering from jet lag. I helped my sister move a computer and desk from dads basement apartment. We moved the furniture around to fill in the spot. My sister and I cooked taco salad for dinner.</div><div> Thursday we left early for Bedford, Virginia in one car to visit the D Day memorial. We did the walking tour and came home with postcards and crickets. Crickets were used in communicating with the paratroopers. If a paratrooper heard the bushes move he would click once on the clicker, if it was an American soldier they would respond with two clicks. It doesn't sound like a grasshopper to me, just a loud click that the grandchildren will love. I should have gotten two so they could play in the bushes outside. </div><div> We also learned that Ike Eisenhower set the style with his bomber jacket.</div><div>One of the bronze statues has him gesturing with his hand out and this was taken from a photo of him talking to another soldier from his home state, discussing fly fishing. He was known for visiting the men. I figured Bruce would like that story. </div><div> We returned home and Bonita and Patty made chicken with a honey Dijon mustard, orange sauce and Patty made a salsa with mandarin oranges (or naval), cubed avocado, cashews, sliced cucumber, mint, chopped sweet onion and mint. It was delicious!</div><div> Finally baby brother Kevin showed up. He drives truck and managed to get a load this way so he is here for a few days. Will continue this saga later. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAy9UGGUU9v5a6BZjRf8dvaR6BivuXTNz6SLMgRkbwQEhL1aW11zGDV7pet2AqgZ-6Mu5uUq8NomPfVC6smeu9Br0zQjc7U5mINFjKK0IioPwjUo23UJFt1Lv1jBVfGXoaBdq3ewe286oU/s640/blogger-image--108425368.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAy9UGGUU9v5a6BZjRf8dvaR6BivuXTNz6SLMgRkbwQEhL1aW11zGDV7pet2AqgZ-6Mu5uUq8NomPfVC6smeu9Br0zQjc7U5mINFjKK0IioPwjUo23UJFt1Lv1jBVfGXoaBdq3ewe286oU/s640/blogger-image--108425368.jpg"></a></div> View from my sistahs deck</div><div> Update on Bruce~</div><div> He passed his ham radio test! He said he only missed one. Four men gave him the test. He will use a hand help radio til he decides which kind to purchase.</div><div> His leg braces are ordered.</div><div>He will get his drivers license in July. </div><div>He is getting stronger. </div><div>His next goal is to stand for Stake conference in November.</div><div><br></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-22732426088537400802017-03-30T13:23:00.001-07:002017-03-30T13:23:11.881-07:00March Days<div>March 8</div><div>The OT ladies came yesterday to see our routine at home and make suggestions so Bruce can do more for himself, which means more work for me. we changed out the long body pillow and he is supposed to do as much as he can to roll over at night, so I have to wait for him to do his changes then I assist. I still have to get up to put water in the sleep machine and Duncan gets up to help too. It's an insurance thing, if they think he is not progressing fast enough they will stop therapy. So the OT have to make a report that he is more independent otherwise no $ for therapy. It would be our worst nightmare if that happened. Bruce really needs the sessions, he gets depressed it he is not busy. </div><div> I found a new book series called the Sisters Grim, seven books, juvenile fiction, they read pretty fast but are fun fairy tale detective stories.</div><div>I finished two small lap quilt tops, need to get them quilted. One is umbrellas for the library theme in April and the other is a challenge quilt from our group. Need to begin a log cabin quilt, maybe.</div><div> </div><div>March 17</div><div>Thank you for the apple pie! It looks lovely. Duncan says he likes your crust better than Kaufmans! That is a compliment. An no he did share...</div><div>I went tanning again today for 7 min. Andrew says I am still pasty white.</div><div>I went grocery shopping this afternoon.</div><div>I took a long nap yesterday. </div><div>Bruce has a sore on his nose from the breathing mask.</div><div>Andrew rolled his ankle at bb last night. He is alright.</div><div>Looks like I will fly from Boise to SLC by myself. Ben didn't want to pay $600 for tickets for the three of them. I'll meet my sistah and mom in SLC and fly from there. We will have fun, be loud and eat way too much.</div><div>Just found out Rob and Lindsey are going to have baby 5! Yeah in October.</div><div>Dan and Heidie texted a photo, they will have girl #3 in August.</div><div><br></div><div>March 22</div><div>The Dr. has okayed Bruce to drive, so we will go to Boise this summer to get the van changed over. Looks like Duncan will be out of a job soon. He will have to decide where he wants to go, Portland area, Utah or back to school.</div><div> They just road swept the road in front of our house for gravel. I love it when they do that and the van was gone so it will be nice. </div><div>Guess I better put some clean clothes away. I already did my dishes</div><div><br></div><div>March 23</div><div>I'm having a difficult time being positive so I googled things to be grateful for.</div><div><br></div><div>Things to Always be GRATEFUL for every day</div><div><br></div><div>Family and friends</div><div>A roof over my head</div><div>Drinkable water</div><div>Food to eat</div><div>Good health</div><div>The kindness of strangers</div><div>I can enjoy the small and free pleasures of life.</div><div>Access to the Internet.</div><div>The setbacks that have formed me and made me stronger.</div><div>Life </div><div><br></div><div>Okay so that list wasn't long enough, I have modified it to fit me. Luke texted, Dan and Robert called and we got to Facetime with our daughter. My sistah sent me a card with $5 in it to spend any way I want. Shelia got me some m&ms. Life is good. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVwu3jnVnL09lTkcZ12ijEXCEe9xqweDXaNTj8xVXZ1u28Yz_DfwZNktGbPoPghZTk1kP3bBp2GgMOpv8op5KC1RahNuA568wpIWMuJrDN4ck3z4n3-pDU3tWtfRc1L6XbrpcYKXCa3lbF/s640/blogger-image--735928844.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVwu3jnVnL09lTkcZ12ijEXCEe9xqweDXaNTj8xVXZ1u28Yz_DfwZNktGbPoPghZTk1kP3bBp2GgMOpv8op5KC1RahNuA568wpIWMuJrDN4ck3z4n3-pDU3tWtfRc1L6XbrpcYKXCa3lbF/s640/blogger-image--735928844.jpg"></a></div> I love flowers, </div><div><br></div><div> I borrowed my friends die cut machine for fabric so I will spend the afternoon playing with it.</div><div> Bruce is gone so I'm cutting out fun umbrellas for a quilt. I'm thinking I will buy more die cuts and we will be able to share. Win, win for both of us.</div><div> I went to a fabric sale on my birthday and spent too much money. Shhh, Don't tell Bruce.</div><div>Duncan did the dishes for me. I have to put the laundry away. Thank you Duncan.</div><div>I had egg salad with bacon bits Sam itch for lunch.</div><div> Must be time for a nap.</div><div><br></div><div> Duncan and Bruce went to therapy and had the wrong time. They will go back in an hour. Bruce checked it and that is what our copy of the schedule said.</div><div> I am doing 365 items for 365 days, they give you one thing to declutter a day. Today is the pantry, I'm going to Wal Mart and dollar store to get containers. People put items in baskets or clear boxes to organize items.</div><div> We did clean out the clothes closet yesterday and have three bags of clothes and one bag of shoes to take to the DI tomorrow. Trouble is you can't even tell we cleared stuff out of it. How does that happen?</div><div> I signed up for a paper piecing class at the quilt store. It is four green trees with a white background, I'm going to change it to white trees with a blue sky background. We don't have anything green in our house. It is a mini quilt table topper. People use these instead of dusting or doilies. Sounds good to moi.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGJxh_nk4q7PD23wmmETxKeyD3Yg3wYkv_-ATRRkMy_IPcwYghf0vM_0F8mFCa2b1Lk6IkHQ-97y7OK9XtPaMQYnW1r0xVZhdPwNRba2USRyX1zBacFPQSlfKHwXxIwgnoAHufsChhz6mt/s640/blogger-image-618967511.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGJxh_nk4q7PD23wmmETxKeyD3Yg3wYkv_-ATRRkMy_IPcwYghf0vM_0F8mFCa2b1Lk6IkHQ-97y7OK9XtPaMQYnW1r0xVZhdPwNRba2USRyX1zBacFPQSlfKHwXxIwgnoAHufsChhz6mt/s640/blogger-image-618967511.jpg"></a></div> Finished top, need to quilt it. The ladies in the class asked me why I was there since I already know how to paper piece, I told them I just needed to get out of the house. I made new friends and learned a new trick or two.</div><div> Nu Motion brought us a new seat cover for Bruce's chair. I take it off to launder and have a dickens of a time putting it back on. Now I ask one of the ladies that helps us to wrestle it back on with me. The man that brought it said they use cheap zippers, even he needed help putting it on the cushion. I was afraid my hand would let loose of the zipper pull and smack him in the face. He said he was aware of that and told me to be careful. We will see how long this cover lasts. Bruce was able to hold his bottom off the chair while we made the cushion switch. He wouldn't have been able to do that a year ago. </div><div> Bruce is still making progress albeit slowly. He is able to stand longer and walks with assistance. </div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-82169275039889143122017-01-13T06:26:00.001-08:002017-01-13T06:26:07.093-08:00January Moments<div>JAn. 4</div><div>I joined this Facebook website for organizing your home in 365 days. She has you do one thing a day. Keeping up with it so far, today is clear off the coffee table which I did as the Christmas tree was on it. So will do a side table today with Andrews junk on it.</div><div> I'm so tired been sleeping a lot. Bruce is going to the Dr. She needs to see him to talk about getting leg braces. Which will then be approved by insurance and then a trip to Boise to make leg casts. Not looking forward to it. It makes my eye twitch. </div><div><br></div><div> I also signed up for 100 days of real food, she sends you menus and recipes for six weeks. One week is giving up fast food and fried food, not sure if I can do that. This week it is eat two fruits or veggies with each meal, not so well on that. I do like my oranges dipped in chocolate. We'll see how it goes.</div><div>So I guess my goals for this year are organizing and trying to eat better and continuing with Zumba, I guess I better add take a vitamin for better health.</div><div> For social I have my quilt group and volunteering at the school across the street once a week. I might sign up for some fun, fast sewing classes at the local quilt store too. It gets me outta the house. </div><div> For spiritual goals I'm trying to read my scriptures, saying prayers is not easy for me, I get too angry. I do not like my life right now, taking care of Bruce sucks the life out of moi. I will try to keep busy and whine less. Maybe</div><div> For mental I do that Duolingo app to learn a new language and I read Agatha </div><div>Christie murder mysteries. I'm doing better at cooking so that is a fun learning goal too.</div><div>Okay there, am I perfect yet?</div><div>Mark Twain said we are all perfect and pious the beginning of January and then it is back to normal after two weeks. I'll see if I can last the month.</div><div>JAn. 7</div><div>Church tomorrow has been cancelled. There is a blizzard outside. The message came from the area regional authorities. We have two inches and 5- 11 is predicted. We are supposed to do the lessons at home so when the boys get up in the morning we will meet and do the SS lesson and then RS/priesthood together if the boys want. Andrew works 2 - 7 tomorrow unless it gets cancelled.</div><div>I sewed a yellow strip quilt with grey sashing and will appliqué elephants and monkeys on it. Her baby is due in 4/5 weeks so the sooner it gets done the better. I will tie it.</div><div> Went grocery shopping in case I can't make it out, got milk and eggs, we will be fine as long as the electricity doesn't go out. I have candles and flashlights, not sure if we have batteries. </div><div> The men are going to come and decide how to update the basement bathroom. The toilet leaks so it will have to be replaced along with a new cabinet for the sink. Will probably do linoleum instead of tile as it is in the basement, hope he has ideas what to do with the shower stall it is cramped in there. It will be fun, loud and will keep us on our toes.</div><div> Luke moved to Portland area to work for a year and a half, then he will return to Utah to open an office there. They made it between storms so they should be set and unpacking today. William was sick so they didn't stop. Maybe we will see them in April. when the weather is better, we could meet them half way somewhere depends on Bruce.</div><div> We won't have to go to Boise to get his cast done for his leg braces, that will be wonderful. They will do that here. Yeah!</div><div> I made cookies before the electricity goes off. We are sorta prepared.</div><div>Jan 9</div><div>Bruces sister sent us three boxes of books. We sorted them for the ones Bruce wants to keep, some for moi and some to give to the library. The library already had a lot but I found a few to donate and the rest we will trade at the bookstore for credit. Thank you sistah Kathy!</div><div>I finished a Christmas quilt backing and then decided I need to make the quilt bigger so might add a border. I love the colors in the quilt.</div><div> I saw I new pattern I want to try and figured I better finish a couple of ufos first. Then I will begin another quilt.</div><div> The library wants to display a couple of quilts so we will do a heart theme for February. I have a couple of small ones they will use. March is green so will have to do some for that too. I like the small table topper quilts. Don't have to dust...</div><div> Have some new recipes to try this week. That will be fun. I think I will do the chicken chili as I bought fancy bread on Saturday and need to use it up.</div><div> This is part of the Ben and Dans family that helped Luke move into their new apartment in Tigard. His new job started on Monday. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2-fyuLyJmJns20Q8O0xT-tSL9BZkFFCrN5mHQdWs2fkFQ-SbAJpxeN4pnIVVVMFVdFR6zdlZ-rxR4rGf_kIu9h12pZXF3cUbrD3JSG85m6yn4Xoo0HpzwRzldRM3DTl1mxBR5BXMPqlOF/s640/blogger-image-173474004.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2-fyuLyJmJns20Q8O0xT-tSL9BZkFFCrN5mHQdWs2fkFQ-SbAJpxeN4pnIVVVMFVdFR6zdlZ-rxR4rGf_kIu9h12pZXF3cUbrD3JSG85m6yn4Xoo0HpzwRzldRM3DTl1mxBR5BXMPqlOF/s640/blogger-image-173474004.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-17961977055167541112016-12-29T07:14:00.001-08:002016-12-29T07:14:07.720-08:00Merry Christmas!<div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii2qOJLw77ZPJ4v3tJ_bQ8RtInwMlvYmuqjBN_kz0MZcXYDS0pcFK7ZXczBzk4bXZFvqfwXestcY_W46teQ2kVi_vZULqzbPpnMHt9XiWp-uk6EiTEHxo2nfDekWe47cCsqSMtASyiOAK4/s640/blogger-image--1708091883.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii2qOJLw77ZPJ4v3tJ_bQ8RtInwMlvYmuqjBN_kz0MZcXYDS0pcFK7ZXczBzk4bXZFvqfwXestcY_W46teQ2kVi_vZULqzbPpnMHt9XiWp-uk6EiTEHxo2nfDekWe47cCsqSMtASyiOAK4/s640/blogger-image--1708091883.jpg"></a></div><div> Jean Secl brought over this fun and delicious cake. She used to own TLC cakes downtown. </div>Dec. 22 - Been tired, Bruces sleeping mask has a leak and it whistles me awake. Hope to get a nap after the workers leave today. I get really grumpy when I don't get enough sleep. Two nights this week with no sleep and I do not feel sociable. </div><div>The boys and fam are coming today. I'm making frozen chicken nuggets and French fries for dinner, I'm bad, just want something quick and easy. They will take turns cooking, I need a cook for me.</div><div>The girl that cleans just texted she has ringworm so she won't be coming to clean and I am too tired to clean. </div><div>Bruce wants to go Christmas shopping so I told him after my nap.</div><div>Sorry I am a whiner this morning.</div><div>I did get my Church visiting done, VT, yesterday. </div><div>I went to a sewing class and made two hot pads and then spent $200 on groceries. Is that healthy? Luke made me buy it from Hickory farms. The nice lady said he was at the right place for them and would help him get around better at home. Now SAIF gets to approve and then he gets measured and then practice. Yeah another big step.</div><div> I had a sick care taker and when I called the other gal to sub she had her phone turned off so Duncan got to sub with me. It was only for a day but set me off schedule. </div><div> The least little thing and I have a melt down. I asked one of the girls to come an extra day so I will have two mornings off. I look forward to the change.</div><div> The boys moved the furniture around for me so we can put the Christmas tree in front of the window. Now I seem to have misplaced the tree stand. </div><div> Bruce and I went to the festival of the trees on Saturday. We voted for the Merry Chrismoose tree. Bruce likes moose, it rhymes with Bruce on a caboose, drinking juice, under a spruce.</div><div> <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpoN0R0yro0mAWAWlk2LHhKkKkr-c8dVWgJIAN_DyiKZcwk66jMjUupUQYjR1ID45Og6evYYAwRTwXrUl-jdfDDtmUujZa1qlnBbWynuPhYkJzbsaF9-mwhm0n8YxclDl4bfwyZWX5CSUg/s640/blogger-image-1302307588.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpoN0R0yro0mAWAWlk2LHhKkKkr-c8dVWgJIAN_DyiKZcwk66jMjUupUQYjR1ID45Og6evYYAwRTwXrUl-jdfDDtmUujZa1qlnBbWynuPhYkJzbsaF9-mwhm0n8YxclDl4bfwyZWX5CSUg/s640/blogger-image-1302307588.jpg"></a></div></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-24243504000857995942016-11-28T15:54:00.001-08:002016-11-28T15:54:42.246-08:00Retreat and Thanksgiving<div> I had a very pleasant two day vacation at Grande Ronde cow Camp. A couple of friends joined me on Monday and another friend came up on Tuesday. The food was delicious and plentiful and the company exceptional. I felt rested and ready to go.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCoAbzlaXHElM8S5401mdHWnlOxHxkG2LVn7gzVzfJKs-GQGHb12M7bVaH-8QL5JcWif0rqgLZdiZkGOlSnkxagVfzBs05wn5LuLrinagjqLSNlN21ZZMDCj70AKNwcVy91Gi0RSklIJI9/s640/blogger-image--1630455875.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCoAbzlaXHElM8S5401mdHWnlOxHxkG2LVn7gzVzfJKs-GQGHb12M7bVaH-8QL5JcWif0rqgLZdiZkGOlSnkxagVfzBs05wn5LuLrinagjqLSNlN21ZZMDCj70AKNwcVy91Gi0RSklIJI9/s640/blogger-image--1630455875.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJZaLcgO26iihfMSlgIFL6a-vzps8R5kwu03mNyr0fc8QvI6iQRqp6AquidGBU6mRtLA8-GYjg9pv_dAzHpqfBEJnpBBGiqrN8pUzw_sNTEwFH-tqDynMb8R_meqKYFm1aV8xtyoLDtLez/s640/blogger-image-766631367.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJZaLcgO26iihfMSlgIFL6a-vzps8R5kwu03mNyr0fc8QvI6iQRqp6AquidGBU6mRtLA8-GYjg9pv_dAzHpqfBEJnpBBGiqrN8pUzw_sNTEwFH-tqDynMb8R_meqKYFm1aV8xtyoLDtLez/s640/blogger-image-766631367.jpg"></a></div> This is the bed in the loft I slept in and the mini quilt next to the bed in the loft. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSf4jHYt5IYYPIZbWxCHjmG4xvI6S49ogG72K_7an1jP3vgln3pmEvSZiaC_s4Gi-nHGr53jpOKaAsweXCRowcpu1NNXTOFSZwhwIjgPZFPOeF2jUZYMeUXgKhnZIy-hOQNfr6zRX6RYqi/s640/blogger-image-978211218.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgSf4jHYt5IYYPIZbWxCHjmG4xvI6S49ogG72K_7an1jP3vgln3pmEvSZiaC_s4Gi-nHGr53jpOKaAsweXCRowcpu1NNXTOFSZwhwIjgPZFPOeF2jUZYMeUXgKhnZIy-hOQNfr6zRX6RYqi/s640/blogger-image-978211218.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div> This is a mini cat back sewing machine in the loft. I had never heard of it before. Will have to find one.</div></div><div> Bruce had a couple of bad days wherein his body does not respond to therapy. He is exhausted from no sleep at night and that effects his body's response to therapy.</div><div>We had the last sleep test on Thursday ninth. I got another night off. They equipped him with a ASV machine instead of a cpap. The machine reacts to the patients ability to breathe or not breathe and adjusts the flow of air. </div><div> When the Dr writes a prescription for the machine and SAIF approves we will have the machine at home. Apparently it is quieter than the cpap machine so that will be a blessing for me. </div><div> Dr. Ebel is able to make results for Bruce. After swimming Dr. Ebel worked his magic on Bruce's feet. Bruce said his feet felt warm and Dr. Ebel said he was working on the circulation in Bruce's lower body and feet, so that is a plus. The therapists are working on his calf muscles. At home we push Bruces toe back and he pushes them forward, trying to strengthen his muscles. </div><div> We had a quiet Thanksgiving at home. Andrew worked. I made a pecan chocolate chip pie and a my first ever pumpkin roll. (At my age, no less) I purchased a marionberry pie and cheese ball from Kauffmans. Delicious as usual.</div><div> Some of the children will be home at Christmas so that will be nice. My grandchildren bring me joy! </div><div> I took a sewing class at the Quilt Store and made a snap purse, using a mental tape measure, very fun class.</div><div> The vacuum cleaner needs a new part and my sewing machine stopped working in the at end of the class. I was able to get the machine cleaned and it runs smoothly. We will send for a part for the vacuum on Monday.</div><div> We played musical beds at our house. I traded a queen size bed for a double and moved the double to the basement and a single bed upstairs in my sewing room. Now I have my room in my sewing room and can reach my design wall. Change is good. I have ordered new egg shell shades for the bedroom so will be able to open and close them for more light during the day and privacy at night. I am organizing my sewing projects and the room is looking good.</div><div><br></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-80748975857150738032016-11-01T08:32:00.001-07:002016-11-01T08:32:17.201-07:00Leaps and BoundsBruce is improving by leaps and bounds, one week he shuffle walked for four feet the next he is up to ten feet using a walker with assistance! His left leg is really responding. <div> He works very hard and is exhausted after therapy. </div><div> Bruce and Duncan <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">went to the two year check up in Walla Walla. I was sick, flu stuff. Dr. Marsh is concerned about Bruce's kidneys. Apparently spinal cord patients end up with kidney failure as using a urinal doesn't completely empty the bladder and that puts pressure on the bladder so he suggests Bruce use a catheter three or more times a day. Insurance will continue the payments for therapy as long as Bruce continues to improve.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> This week Bruce will meet with Dr. McCarthy and get info on self catheters. This should help decrease the number of times Bruce uses the urinal. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> Another side note, we spent one of the settlements we received! Yeah! We bought cemetery plots and caskets! So that is all arranged. Bruce got the cheapest metal casket, who cares what it looks like it is going in the ground and I got the next level up in green. It costs $500 for them to dig a hole with a machine. We have six sons we figure we will save money and have the boys dig the hole for us... Just kidding. And they charge extra, $250, if you are buried on a Saturday. Just some snide political comments. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> I have been sick for two weeks with achy shoulders, sore throat, runny nose, stuffed up dose and a cough. I'm worn out. I have arranged to go away to my friends cabin for two days in two weeks, she has a long arm quilting machine we will play with. Hope the weather is good. She will pamper me and cook for me and I will see and veg and sit with my feet up and most important I will sleep and sleep. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> Newt finished a grow box for Bruce. It will be ready for spring next year.<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDIjQhaxvIYt2puzskMfFFwaMzeSdP3j2OWoozbamLOENzYS-WMujU4l8o0pkgzmWXm4ttrYXvWg7y8eB8EJ4xV90rVRupSYP9wg5tB3GPy-DYNNmSU1J5xt15_Uj_XwxJ9m1SusHfoH9y/s640/blogger-image--382471609.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDIjQhaxvIYt2puzskMfFFwaMzeSdP3j2OWoozbamLOENzYS-WMujU4l8o0pkgzmWXm4ttrYXvWg7y8eB8EJ4xV90rVRupSYP9wg5tB3GPy-DYNNmSU1J5xt15_Uj_XwxJ9m1SusHfoH9y/s640/blogger-image--382471609.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuitZL5xsgZuIF8zZ9KSK0_Jei9lHRLIarzfMm5cbmgURf_g9IrdYg2QPsH122naeVqSZM1Ty2lkLXuS_INBfBqpOIWqRGsjScvCSoFTErEv8a32RcLBurANSvZ7k7bfKmL3rfGBSQxB32/s640/blogger-image-1703593240.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuitZL5xsgZuIF8zZ9KSK0_Jei9lHRLIarzfMm5cbmgURf_g9IrdYg2QPsH122naeVqSZM1Ty2lkLXuS_INBfBqpOIWqRGsjScvCSoFTErEv8a32RcLBurANSvZ7k7bfKmL3rfGBSQxB32/s640/blogger-image-1703593240.jpg"></a>The YW from second Ward raked and bagged our leaves for us. He is standing with all his weight and walking in a hanging brace with no weight with assistance.</div><div>We are very grateful he is improving. Bruce has joy. It is a blessing and a miracle he is improving.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZsDUSNP8xwNyGif_gffpcn54Es-fxRnvRQVHZ54mufmWUJ-MIq0YXl-DbfQF67UWbsZHpkAgyrXBVnh3_JJnMgQJK96usz4M0X01dZibLwHf-3jWhyphenhyphenmpPfs4lnvMDJEGmBUUANWXCtLqP/s640/blogger-image-1239425977.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZsDUSNP8xwNyGif_gffpcn54Es-fxRnvRQVHZ54mufmWUJ-MIq0YXl-DbfQF67UWbsZHpkAgyrXBVnh3_JJnMgQJK96usz4M0X01dZibLwHf-3jWhyphenhyphenmpPfs4lnvMDJEGmBUUANWXCtLqP/s640/blogger-image-1239425977.jpg"></a></div> I am taking cooking classes from Laura Edwards, this one turned out. I will not tell you about the blueberry pancakes without baking powder... </div><div> Me, I'm fine, I'm struggling. Some days are good, some days anything sets me off and I can't stop crying. Yes I do service, I make quilts to donate, I started volunteering at Greenwood school in the library once a week and I am taking cooking classes. Life is difficult. Life is up and down. </div><div> We all have problems and there are people worse off than us. </div><div>Listening to General conference has helped. Now I need to something very important, nap time!</div><div><br></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-75999017900412845982016-09-25T20:31:00.001-07:002016-09-25T20:31:19.697-07:00The Sistahs are Here!<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS9vRnqxXK8QrcpQ_06IxndujSSrQR3ywUOIEkg3gqFqOIJAJ32nk9V6nsnis2fy4Apc_ph8R-4qzDKbK-hjFevSpjIPYU-fhuyQfSIz5q4FJIf3XFYAXciOdHG6CbBXuFzo7nON_oWUi1/s640/blogger-image--1798406877.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjS9vRnqxXK8QrcpQ_06IxndujSSrQR3ywUOIEkg3gqFqOIJAJ32nk9V6nsnis2fy4Apc_ph8R-4qzDKbK-hjFevSpjIPYU-fhuyQfSIz5q4FJIf3XFYAXciOdHG6CbBXuFzo7nON_oWUi1/s640/blogger-image--1798406877.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> My sisters Robin and Bonita and mom are here! Alas the time passed too quickly. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We went to the farmers market and some shopping at Bealls. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Sunday we went to church and more eating. They did all the cooking and made me laugh. Andrew says he has never seen me laugh like that before. My mom says it happens when the girls get together.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> Bruce is ever increasing. Another sleep test on Wednesday <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">and hopefully they will fit him with oxygen. He wakes up exhausted. He feel asleep while my sisters were here and that is not an easy task.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> Andrew is working at J C Penny's. He does floor and freight. He scans items and hangs them up. Can't wait to by a bra from him. Who wants to join me? He turns a lovely shade of red.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> Duncan has been sick so I have done his shift and driving for a couple of days. I'm exhausted. My friends wanted to take me to a quilt retreat. I'm afraid all I would have accomplished would have been sleeping all day.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> Bruce is steadily improving. They had him shuffle walking with assistance. He says it is like when he first started to shuffle walk in the pool. He wears a harness and doesn't have any body weight, they will steadily add weight.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"> They are working on strengthening his knees now.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-44771394378359788082016-09-07T13:29:00.001-07:002016-09-07T13:29:44.534-07:00End of SummerSummer is almost over.<div> Bruce is improving. He stands up five times in a row, four sets, so twenty times at PT. in pool time he stands up, walks and pushing off the wall with one leg at a time and stretching. They have him standing up using a walker and standing up using a transfer pole. We have a pole for the house, won't set it up until they train us at home how to help him. </div><div> Dan and Heidie came for a visit. Heidie helped rearrange the furniture. The living room is more open, I love it. They helped us with several projects around the house. I love hearing 'grandma' from a squeaky little voice. What joy!</div><div> We are going to order a tall love seat for Bruce so he can slide board evenly, not uphill and that will get him out of the wheelchair. He is looking forward to that. </div><div> We purchased a clap lamp for the bedroom. Bruce reads in bed now and can claps to turn the light off. His finger tips are numb and he can't feel the light switch to turn the lamp off so he claps to turn the light off and I don't have to take my grumpy self in there to see what he needs.<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">He says it is another step to independence.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"> <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRiG0h_K2qXIbf7ty4OHSWmD_OuZLRk6SZzQAvNabRWDTEis-dKCMOX4AMZeXZmEUfW8WeapwjxkIUeq9O4A25TSZuPsfiTLa4Q9D6K31H6J-fPKdb_0f1DMUZo9r5mSCWsb2E-6m-26zS/s640/blogger-image--920956735.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRiG0h_K2qXIbf7ty4OHSWmD_OuZLRk6SZzQAvNabRWDTEis-dKCMOX4AMZeXZmEUfW8WeapwjxkIUeq9O4A25TSZuPsfiTLa4Q9D6K31H6J-fPKdb_0f1DMUZo9r5mSCWsb2E-6m-26zS/s640/blogger-image--920956735.jpg"></a></div></span></div><div> </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnkAcMyyHfMhyJed9dqQvIAdqnFHhpmqmG1J5ovbuhe5LXusDjVo8G87zp9vTXEWOxDuu3o690ILtZRba6gifwtpmuGmn4D2sgu0-NScZ6WUTDujFFG0h7BZvxe2v4wLuIJdUWJAxsrQzQ/s640/blogger-image--1406203923.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnkAcMyyHfMhyJed9dqQvIAdqnFHhpmqmG1J5ovbuhe5LXusDjVo8G87zp9vTXEWOxDuu3o690ILtZRba6gifwtpmuGmn4D2sgu0-NScZ6WUTDujFFG0h7BZvxe2v4wLuIJdUWJAxsrQzQ/s640/blogger-image--1406203923.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div><br></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-91250740684791894152016-08-01T15:06:00.001-07:002016-08-01T15:06:51.636-07:00Long, Lazy Summer<div> Haven't written much, it has been a long, lazy summer.</div><div> On my walk yesterday I saw they had patched the big hole in the road. And I met the little girl with the pink tricycle. When I asked if I could ride her bike, she replied "mine". Her dad was friendly and the baby sitter, both wanted to pet Hali. </div><div>This morning Hali was trying to be friendly with a grey cat where we walk in the grass because of no sidewalk, the cat did not want to be friends. </div><div>I went to Zumba, there were 15 people there.</div><div> I had my Quilt Questers group last night. They honored past presidents with a yummy box of fudge. I had my blocks partially sewn together. </div><div> Must go shower after Zumba.</div><div> Luke says he loves the Star Trek quilt I made for them. It had a red chevron backing.</div><div>We went to a Pioneer Day pot luck at noon, before it got too hot.</div><div> Bro. Pedro played the harmonic and that was delightful. He had several different kinds, I had never seen them before, a regular one, a longer one, one with four different harmonicas combined an ad one with horns, that was very, very old. We did a singalong and heard two stories. They had a sling line up for the young ones to try and a pony to ride.</div><div> Bruce and Bro. Hutchinson were the judges for the Dutch oven cooking. They both liked the spicy food. </div><div> We went to Wal mart after and I got some batting for two of my quilt tops. I worked on another top today and am very pleased with it.</div><div> Our friend Newt Stanger has finished redoing the garden for us. He is now working on Bruces shop in the garage. Bruce was sorting screws, nuts and bolts. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmldzB8jS1wO0TWf7PZ9DmdkKidT5jgbRAcbsLDBG4-UkKJ5g91Slc7Wi7CInhuwefUDNGDc0i7ey-gk7MNsfwl7hpiBZPegU9xoTKth_n5xLOlB98G14yQF1Nd2-RA6edXZ86Gi5j__wA/s640/blogger-image-761198714.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmldzB8jS1wO0TWf7PZ9DmdkKidT5jgbRAcbsLDBG4-UkKJ5g91Slc7Wi7CInhuwefUDNGDc0i7ey-gk7MNsfwl7hpiBZPegU9xoTKth_n5xLOlB98G14yQF1Nd2-RA6edXZ86Gi5j__wA/s640/blogger-image-761198714.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div> Bruce is still progressing, albeit too slowly for moi. He straddles a pole and climbs hand over hand until he is standing, next he swivels his hips and plops down on a chair. So in fact he is using the pole to do a standing transfer. He did it four times and the last time he sat it was controlled no more plopping.</div><div> At PT they have him doing transfers using the fun push-up grippers. No more slide board. At home we still use the slide board. They have ordered two poles for home use, one in the bathroom and one in the bedroom. We won't use them at home until he is stronger. </div><div> He only dropped his water bottle once this week and his leg only jerked off the bed once. Bruce awakens very tired in the morning. He has signed up for a sleep study. We did the initial interview and are waiting for permission form the insurance company. We think he has sleep apnea and hope a machine will help with that.</div><div> I am exhausted and am making too many mistakes. My mom has returned to Utah and I miss her. </div><div><br></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-51240198004879961012016-07-10T11:21:00.001-07:002016-07-10T11:21:22.073-07:00PTSD<div>Mom and I are having fun. </div><div> She does dishes, folds laundry, cooks meals, picks raspberries and goes on walks with me. </div><div>She has an annoying habit of wanting to pay for everything. Bruce said one tank of gas and one meal and no more. </div><div>We just stay inside in the evening and watch mysteries. Now we are watching Murdock Mysteries. Mom likes it. It happens in Toronto in the 1890s. We watched a cliff hanger tonight and will watch the rest on Monday. </div><div> Found out Reed Waite was a in a four wheeler accident. They did surgery on his spinal cord. Dr. Montalbano did the surgery, the same Dr that did Bruces. He remembered Bruce. I was in shock and couldn't function for a day, It brought back such turmoil, fear and uncertainty. I might know what PTSD feels like, reliving a traumatic experience.</div><div>Then we heard the news the family decided to unhook Reed as the MRI showed no brain function. What a shock, hope and then the worst, death. Went to the funeral on a rainy Saturday morning. The heavens were crying.</div><div> We have temporally stopped work on the garden. Newt has a spot on his lungs and needs to rest. I had two teenagers come over on Saturday and worked them hard for two hours. They cut the rest of the blackberries back that Bruce wanted under control, moved some bark mulch, put a protective coating on the planter and we laid some ground cover down for the next section of pavers. </div><div> It won't be finished when the grandchildren are here this week. We will probably not get to wander out there in the rain anyway. Now I will have to clean inside. Mom helped me clear off one table. I'm just a pilot. I pile things here and there...</div><div> Mom finished the binding on yet another quilt. The Star Trek quilt is ready to send to Luke and Taylor. Will get it in the mail this week. I have begun the blocks for the Star Wars quilt. Will put binding on another quilt so mom can work on it.</div><div> I told Debbie I would sew some of Reeds shirts in a quilt for her. She said she would bring them over when she gets settled. Man, her life is going to going to change. </div><div>Our lives aren't what we hoped they would be. </div><div> Bruce is able to stand on one leg and move the other leg back and forth about two inches. They are working on strengthening his knees as they give out when he tries to stand. He is able to stand for about five minutes now. He said he stood in four feet of water at the pool which means he can support about half his body weight now. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDXeTwSh3xCJ-x56TebgZ1bN2m_sockqpJB4vttDHTBl7g1yE5uI601XC0NEOFZCUACNLJge3UNF8_XFGXVk8iIKQLVjwgU5ttn-KcdUhf8C1TuJ8eXI6qh6cv0tN3pcqM_AtFdXbmY8Gl/s640/blogger-image--708086165.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDXeTwSh3xCJ-x56TebgZ1bN2m_sockqpJB4vttDHTBl7g1yE5uI601XC0NEOFZCUACNLJge3UNF8_XFGXVk8iIKQLVjwgU5ttn-KcdUhf8C1TuJ8eXI6qh6cv0tN3pcqM_AtFdXbmY8Gl/s640/blogger-image--708086165.jpg"></a></div>We bought a new grill for the Fouth and so I recycled the old grill.</div><div><br></div>Grandma and Grandpa Kevanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13097338628138700562noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6617438505837240735.post-15802748522165009022016-06-28T17:06:00.001-07:002016-06-28T17:06:50.085-07:00Visit With My MomWe are just fine, my mom is here visiting so am busy with her and family.<div>We have been busy picking cherries and raspberries.</div><div>Mom is putting on the binding for me on a stack of quilts that need finishing. </div><div>Bruce was able to stand by himself with no help on the fifth try today!
