Family Reunion in Waynesboro, Virginia

Robin, moi, Kevin, Bonita, Elaine

Had a fun family reunion in Waynesboro, Virginia last week. We all stayed at Robin's house. Bonita, Elaine and I flew from SLC on Tuesday. Robin and Curtis picked us up. Elaine and Bonita slept up stairs, I was in the basement on an air mattress in the living room. Kevin joined us on Friday night and slept on another air mattress in the basement in the kitchen.
We took a family portrait Saturday morning.
We had the reunion on Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church. Curtis sister, Angie and his mom, Sarah made the meal. Fried chicken from Kroger, homemade potato salad, slaw, beans with sliced hot dogs, rolls with ham, and coconut cream pie and cherry pie.
It was fun seeing my cousins I hadn't seen in ages. Aunt Carolyn has four boys. Steve, Bill, Hank and Mitchell,  were there with their spouses/ friends. Aunt Marie was there with her daughter Gail.

Things I Learned at Girl's Camp

THINGS I Learned at Girl's Camp

If there are no toilets around a person will have to hold it until she returns to camp or finds a bush...

A paper towel will catch on fire if left near an open flame, it will also melt a plastic plate...

If you put your feet in the creek you will cool off.

Burning sage smells like sausage.

Reading scriptures with a friend makes you want to read til the end of the chapter and then some.

.

Putting the 'glow' from a glow stick on your face will make your face swell and burn.

Taking a power nap works wonders.

Don't put your meat in the same cooler as the fruit and veggies...

Reunions are fun with friends as well as family.

Spiritual experiences happen when you write in your journal, read scriptures or sing.

Girl's Camp Pranks

Here are some ideas that have been used at Girl's Camp.
The bees are used with "Ha, Ha, we stung you!!" and leave a candy treat.

Eye stickers - one leader put an eyeball sticker on the middle of each girls' forehead at night, so when they woke up they looked like cyclops and startled each other.

'Heart attacks' with hearts on sticks and sayings and treats.
'Mooning'  is moon shapes on Popsicle sticks with clever sayings and perhaps Starburst candy or Moon pies.
Red Dots -  a sign that says "you have been quarantined."

The Red Army men are placed around a campsite and make a sign that says,"We have you surrounded, un huh, uh huh." and leave a candy treat or homemade book-markers...

Saran wrap is new since I went as a girl. Wrapping cars, toilet seats and doorways are ideas often used.

TP is the usual standard. It is fun for the girls, harmless and usually easy to clean up.

The eggs are "We egged you." You can put a scripture, treat or Y W key-chain fob inside the eggs. This goes well with our Green Eggs and Ham theme this year. eggactly, eggcellent No eggcuses!

Star Tipping is banned this year as someone fell and hit her head on a rock and had a concussion.
Saran wrapping the tents is also banned as the girls in the tent in trying to get out broke a pole or two.
Not happy campers.

So what kind of pranks did you play at camp?

Getting Ready for Girl's Camp

Bruce tried out a recipe he saw for camping ideas. Blueberry sweet rolls anyone?

Our theme for Girl's camp is Dr Suess, "Oh the PlaCes YOu'll Go". Like an education, the temple, the dentist, church, motherhood, etc.
Our book is Green Eggs and Ham. We have seven girls and 3 leaders. One young mom will go home at night.
I like wildflowers and sense we can't pick them when  we are at camp, I put them on the aprons. I figured polka dots were Dr Suessish and then added camping fabric, lady bugs and bees.
Thank -you Rachel Berry for the idea and help with the apron! I want to make a tablecloth to match. It looks like we will be the most colorful at camp! I am making a pennant banner on felt too.

Metal Art

Andrew made the heron for me in shop class at the high school for Mother's day. He said he wants it back when I die... or if we move.
He made the signs for the house. One for the back yard, the 'mistake" and one by the front door.
He does good work. He will take the shop class again next year and will make more marvelous things.

Stonehenge

We stopped at Stonehenge on the way to Matt's baptism. We have never stopped before. It is a fun place! It is a war memorial.
It is officially called Stonehenge Memorial , Mary hill, Washington. The Stonehenge Memorial was built by entrepreneur Sam Hill as a tribute to the soldiers of Klickitat County, Washington, who lost their lives in World War I. Sam Hill's Stonehenge is a full-scale replica of England's famous Stonehenge in Wiltshire (see "Stonehenge, Wiltshire, England" below). Hill was a Quaker pacifist.

The site also includes monuments to the soldiers of Klickitat County who died in World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam. Hill's own crypt is a short walk southwest of Stonehenge on a bluff overlooking the Columbia River.

Matt's Baptism

We went to Matt's baptism in Corvallis! There was one other 'child of record baptism". We waited in the chapel for the first baptism. Then they moved to the RS room and we had our baptism. The Bishop asked all 3 granddads to bear their testimonies. Then after the baptism, Andrew and the grand-mom's got to bear their testimonies. We went home to Ben and Lindsy's and had pulled pork and rolls, salad and a delicious chocolate cake! We are proud of our son for him to baptize his son. The  circle of life continues.
