Checking Up on Uncle Bruce

My niece Tiffany and family from Utah, visited Uncle Bruce today for about 10 minutes. These are her thoughts, "When we got there, the Dr was in there with him for about 40 minutes so we waited and then the PT was in there working with him right after so I felt like we were interrupting his progress since we went in there while they were helping him move his legs around. They said he was going to be busy with rehab until at least 2 pm today. I'm glad we were able to at least say hi though. He told us how strong you are during all of this. He is strong too! I had a warm feeling in my heart after talking with him. We love you and are praying for you all."
Thanks for checking up on Uncle Bruce. Forty minutes is a long time to wait with two little ones. Good luck with your job interviews!
Talked with Bruce for 19 min. this evening.  He said his hand was hurting from holding the phone for so long.
The good news is he will be in a manual wheelchair, 27 inches wide. Looks like we will have to make two door ways wider. This is an older house.
He wants a ramp in the front so he can get out of the car and on the ramp and we will have to redo the back bathroom to a walkin shower with a snake hose shower head. We have a friend in construction with experience that will help with the renovations.
Bruce said he is learning to control his diaphram with the help of the speech therapist.  He can hold a note for 7 secs and she wants him to sustain his voice up to 20 secs.
Eating alone in his room is dull Bob, he eats in the dining area now and has made some new friends.
The Dr told him the workman's comp and insurance should pay for renovations to the house, just keep reciepts. I have a couple of files started.
Thank you to all our friends and family for your prayers, love and concern. We couldn't do this without your support.

I loved Lindsay's comment, "I had a warm place in my heart talking to Bruce" A sure sign the Spirit is close by all the time. We are so happy to hear you're making plans for returning home, a lot to do. If we were closer, you could hire David. He's great at that sort of remodeling. Take care of yourself, Karen, and stay strong.
